Job summary

Essex County Council is seeking an HGV Class 1 Driver for a permanent, full-time role based in Chelmsford. The job involves ro-ro container collection and transportation across 21 recycling centres, with a rolling weekend rota and a focus on safe operations and accurate record-keeping.

You will drive various vehicles, perform pre-shift checks, secure loads, and maintain documentation while developing strong relationships with facilities.

Qualifications

• Compliant HGV Licence, Current driver CPC, Knowledge and understanding of health and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Drive and manage any assigned vehicle, including performing driver checks and completing necessary logs.
• Load and unload containers, ensuring the load is always safe and secure.
• Use all vehicles, equipment, and machinery safely and correctly, following training and guidelines.
• Inspect vehicles before use and report any issues.
• Complete all required paperwork accurately and submit it at the end of each shift.
• Process waste transfer documentation for each load.
• Maintain your HGV license and attend any required training.
