Job summary

Culina is hiring permanent HGV Class 1 Drivers to join our Wentworth Park operations in Barnsley. The role offers competitive hourly rates and shift options to suit different schedules, with paid meal allowances and a modern fleet.

You will conduct general haulage using curtainside trailers, perform vehicle checks, and adhere to driver hours regulations while providing safe, reliable service to distribution centres and retail stores across our nationwide network.

Qualifications

• Valid C+E Licence with HGV1 experience; New Pass drivers welcome.
• No more than 6 points and no DD/DR convictions.
• Current DCPC and Tachograph cards are required.
• Understand and comply with Driver Hours and Working Time Directive (WTD).
• Carry out vehicle checks and report defects; maintain safety and compliance.

Responsibilities

• General haulage using curtainside trailers to Distribution Centres and retail stores.
• Store collections for onward movement to Distribution Centres.
• Support a variety of transport operations, including occasional store deliveries.
• Loading/unloading cages when required.
• Trunking work where operationally available; complete daily vehicle checks and paperwork.
• Maintain safety, compliance and professionalism; work with transport team to ensure efficient service.

Shift Patterns

Day Shifts

• Thursday to Monday
• Start times between 04:00 and 07:00

Night Shifts

• Any 5 days from 7
• Start times between 16:00 and 19:00

Weekend working forms part of these operations and flexibility is required to support customer demand.

Pay Rates

• Monday to Friday Days: £15.15 per hour
• Monday to Friday Nights: £16.35 per hour
• Saturday & Sunday Days: £18.15 per hour
• Saturday & Sunday Nights: £18.65 per hour
• Bank Holidays: £18.96 per hour

The Role

As an HGV Class 1 Driver, your responsibilities will include:

• General haulage using curtainside trailers to Distribution Centres and retail stores
• Store collections for onward movement to Distribution Centres
• Supporting a variety of transport operations, including occasional store deliveries
• Loading and unloading cages when required
• Trunking work where operationally available
• Completing daily vehicle safety checks and all relevant paperwork
• Maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, and professionalism
• Working closely with the transport team to ensure efficient service delivery
• Complying with Driver Hours Regulations, WTD, and Tachograph legislation

Qualifications

• You should hold a valid C+E Licence and ideally have a minimum of 6 months HGV Class 1 driving experience (We will consider New Pass Drivers)
• No more than 6 points and no DD/ DR Code convictions.
• Hold a current valid DCPC & Tacho cards.
• Understand and able to comply with Driver’s hours and WTD legislation.
• Able to understand and carry out necessary vehicle checks to ensure vehicle safety and able to report defects correctly.
• Should comply with on-site health and safety requirements.
