Job summary

Fowler Welch in Poole is seeking a dependable HGV Class 1 Driver. You will operate refrigerated assets, delivering and collecting across UK locations. Roles include various shift patterns (days and nights) with flexible start windows and enhanced rates for nights and weekends.

Training and progression are provided as part of a supportive logistics team. The position requires a valid LGV 1 licence and CPC, with understanding of driver Hours rules.

Qualifications

• Possession of LGV Class 1 Licence
• Current CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
• Knowledge of Road Transport Directive and drivers’ hours
• Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure
• Prioritise workload to meet deadlines

Job Description

Are you an experienced HGV Class 1 Driver, or newly qualified and ready to begin your driving career? We are recruiting dependable drivers to join our team in Poole. Experience is welcome but not essential—we are happy to invest in drivers who have the right attitude, are willing to learn and are committed to completing the required training.

In your role as a HGV Class 1 Driver, you will be operating refrigerated articulated vehicles, delivering and collecting chilled stock from Local and Regional Distribution Centres as well as Farms and Packhouses across the UK.

• 4 on 4 off Days (1pm start)
• Thurs to Saturday Days (10am Start)
• 4 on 4 off Nights (10pm Start)

Due to the nature of the products being delivered, our drivers will have 3 hour start windows to ensure they are flexible depending on volume

Pay rates

You’ll be paid for the hours you work, with a minimum payment of 10 hours per shift. Enhanced rates apply for night hours, Saturdays and Sundays, and overtime is paid after 10 hours.

• Monday to Friday 04:00 - 20:00 - £16.91 per hour
• Monday to Friday 20:00 - 04:00 - £20.29 per hour
• Saturday 04:00 - 20:00 - £19.45 per hour
• Saturday 20:00 - 04:00 - £21.14 per hour
• Sunday and Bank Holiday04:00 - 20:00 - £20.29 per hour
• Sunday and Bank Holiday 20:00 - 04:00 - £21.98 per hour

What you'll be doing:

• Ensure correct and thorough completion of paperwork
• Observe and adhere to company rules and procedures, including all aspects of health, safety and hygiene
• Maintain a good working knowledge of operations within the transport department
• Effectively manage own working time in line with the Road Transport Directive
• Adhere to tachograph rules and regulations at all times
• Ensure daily vehicle checks are completed in line with company procedure
• Responsible for unit and trailer, including temperature checks
• Ensure proof of deliveries (PODs) are signed and returned to the Transport Office after delivery
• Achieve and succeed fuel efficiency targets set by the business
• Any other duties as reasonably required

Qualifications

• Possessionof LGV Class 1 Licence
• Current CPC
• Knowledge of Road Transport Directive and current drivers’ hours.
• Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure.
• Effectively prioritise workload in order to meet set deadline

Additional Information

Please be aware Driving Assessments will be held out of our Portsmouth Depot so drivers must be able to attend assessments in Hilsea, Porstmouth
