Job summary

This is Alexander Faraday Limited is recruiting an experienced HGV Class 1 Driver to join our established recycling and environmental services business in Croydon. The role focuses on completing commercial collection routes with a strong emphasis on safety, reliability and professionalism.

We offer a permanent, full-time position with early starts from around 3:00am and overtime available, typically on Saturdays.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid HGV Class 1 / Category C+E licence.
• Must hold a valid Driver CPC.
• Must hold a valid Digital Tachograph Card.
• Good understanding of drivers’ hours and road transport regulations.
• Experience with urban and multi-site commercial collection routes is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete scheduled commercial collection routes.
• Carry out daily vehicle and safety checks.
• Ensure collections are completed safely and efficiently.
• Operate vehicles used for different types of commercial waste collections.
• Work with collection equipment including RORO vehicles where required.
• Report vehicle defects, route issues or operational problems to the Transport team.
• Maintain accurate paperwork and driver records.
• Ensure vehicles are operated safely and in line with transport regulations.
• Provide a professional service when attending customer sites.

Location: Croydon

Salary: £53,000 per annum

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent

Working Pattern: Minimum 10-hour shifts, early starts from around 3:00am

The Opportunity

We are recruiting an experienced HGV Class 1 Driver to join an established recycling and environmental services business.

The role will involve completing commercial collection routes, working independently while maintaining a safe, reliable and professional service.

This would suit an experienced Class 1 driver who is comfortable with early starts, longer shifts and multi-site collection work, and who is looking for a stable permanent position with overtime available.

The Role

Your responsibilities will include:

• Completing scheduled commercial collection routes
• Carrying out daily vehicle and safety checks
• Ensuring collections are completed safely and efficiently
• Operating vehicles used for different types of commercial waste collections
• Working with collection equipment including RORO vehicles where required
• Reporting vehicle defects, route issues or operational problems to the Transport team
• Maintaining accurate paperwork and driver records
• Ensuring vehicles are operated safely and in line with relevant transport regulations
• Providing a professional service when attending customer sites

About You

Essential

• Valid HGV Class 1 / Category C+E licence
• Valid Driver CPC
• Valid Digital Tachograph Card
• Good understanding of drivers' hours and road transport regulations
• Comfortable completing urban and multi-site commercial collection routes
• Comfortable with early starts from around 3:00am
• Reliable and able to work independently
• Able to commit to shifts of a minimum of 10 hours

Preferred

• Previous RORO / Roll-on Roll-off experience
• Previous commercial waste or recycling experience
• Experience operating specialist collection vehicles or equipment
• Previous experience completing multi-site or collection-based routes

Previous waste-sector experience is useful but is not essential for the right experienced HGV driver.

Package

• £53,000 per annum
• Permanent, full-time position
• Minimum 10-hour shifts Monday to Friday
• Early starts, typically from around 3:00am
• Overtime available every second Saturday
• Overtime paid at time and one-third
