Job summary

Pollock Scotrans Ltd in Bathgate is seeking a skilled HGV Technician to maintain fleet vehicles to DVSA standards and perform MOT preparation. The role requires attention to detail, organisation, and the ability to work within a team in a busy workshop.

You will contribute to accurate paperwork, support the engineering function, and participate in ongoing training and personal development within the workshop.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
• NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Goods Maintenance or equivalent, or proven experience in HGV maintenance.
• UK Driving Licence is required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain vehicles to safe and roadworthy standards per DVSA and group requirements.
• Carry out MOT preparation on Group assets.
• Complete inspection, service and defect paperwork accurately and promptly.
• Ensure high quality repairs are performed cost-effectively.
• Keep workshop facilities, equipment and tools clean and well maintained.
• Support central engineering by identifying failure trends.

About The Role

As a HGV Technician you will:

• Ensure all vehicles are maintained to a safe and roadworthy standard in line with DVSA & Group requirements.


• Carry out MOT preparation on Group assets.


• Ensure that all inspection/service/defect paperwork is completed accurately and in a timely manner.


• Ensure that high quality repairs are carried out in a cost-effective manner.


• Keep all workshop facilities, equipment and tools clean, tidy and well maintained.


• Support central engineering function in identifying failure trends.


• Keep up to date with developments within the industry and understand changes that may impact the effective operation of the workshop.


• Have an organised and methodical approach to problem solving with attention to detail


• Undertake manufacturer training courses as and when required.


• Take ownership of personal development, seeking assistance & guidance from team leaders.


• Be accountable for your own time, be efficient and proactive when working within the workshop.


• Work as part of the wider team and assist others where needed.

Requirements

• Qualified up to NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Goods Maintenance or equivalent, or proven experience as an HGV Technician or in a similar vehicle maintenance role.


• Full UK Driving Licence.


• A proven background in commercial vehicle repairs.


• Knowledge of commercial vehicle legislation and roadworthiness standards.


• C or C&E driving licence is desirable, but not essential.


• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
