Job summary

Farming Partners is seeking an ambitious Herd Manager / 2IC for our 500+ cow, grass-based dairy farm near Dumfries. This hands-on role offers real responsibility, leading day-to-day farm operations, herd performance, grassland management and team leadership in close partnership with the Farm Manager.

You’ll contribute ideas, support development of colleagues, and help drive the farm forward. Accommodation and ongoing training are available, with clear progression toward farm management.

Qualifications

• Good practical dairy farming experience.
• A sound understanding of cows and grass.
• High standards of animal welfare.
• The ability to work well with and help lead a team.
• Good communication and organisation skills.
• A positive attitude and willingness to learn and progress your farming career.

Responsibilities

• Herd health, fertility, welfare and performance.
• Grazing and grassland management.
• Helping organise, motivate and lead the farm team.
• Monitoring performance and helping achieve farm targets.
• Maintaining high standards of animal husbandry and farm presentation.
• Supporting and developing other members of the team.
• Taking responsibility for the farm when the Farm Manager is away.
