Job summary

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Basingstoke seeks a Consultant in Hepatobiliary and General Surgery to support a specialist centre for liver surgery. The role involves elective and emergency surgery across three sites, active MDT participation, and teaching responsibilities.

The post requires full GMC registration, FRCS (Gen Surg), and NHS experience, with subspecialty hepatobiliary training and advanced laparoscopic skills highly desirable. On-call commitments form part of the rota.

Qualifications

• Full GMC Registration with a license to practise.
• FRCS (Gen Surg)
• NHS Experience
• Entry on the Specialist Register for General surgery or evidence in equivalent
• Subspecialty training in Hepatobiliary Surgery
• Advanced laparoscopic surgery skills
• JAG accreditation for OGD and/or colonoscopy (Desirable)
• Higher postgraduate degree (Desirable)
• Experience in same day emergency care & ambulatory pathways (Desirable)
• Experience in Robotic Surgery (Desirable)

Responsibilities

• Provide full general and specialised surgical services including both elective and emergency surgery across three sites as required.
• Be an active member of the local MDTs and participate in integrated patient pathways.
• Manage own caseload through outpatient clinics, theatre lists and on-call arrangements.
• Contribute to teaching and training for undergraduate and postgraduate learners.
• Undertake administrative duties associated with patient care and participate in clinical governance and audits.
• Attend weekly morbidity and mortality meetings and CPD requirements.
