Job summary

Renault Trucks is offering a 3-year Heavy Vehicle Apprentice Technician program in Swindon. Trainees will gain hands-on experience in a dealer workshop, under a skilled mentor, focusing on Renault Trucks’ range and evolving EV systems.

The apprenticeship includes IMI Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, block release training at the Academy, and regular assessments to ensure skill development and readiness for the end-point assessment.

Qualifications

• Must pass Level 1 English and Maths (or exemption) before end-point assessment.
• Training will be delivered at Renault Trucks UK Training Academy, Leicester.
• Interest in commercial vehicle industry and hands-on learning.

Responsibilities

• Based in workshop, learning vehicle repair and maintenance.
• Assist with servicing, MOT preparation and component overhauls.
• Develop diagnostic skills for engines, transmissions and electrical systems.
• Learn high voltage system handling for battery electric vehicles.

Training:

Your training will take place at the state‑of‑the‑art Renault Trucks UK Training Academy in Whetstone, Leicester. This modern facility features a spacious workshop with industry‑standard equipment. You'll learn from experienced commercial vehicle specialists who will provide top‑quality training to ensure you gain the essential knowledge and skills.

In addition to block release training at the Academy, you'll undergo regular assessments and reviews in your workplace to ensure you have the skills needed to successfully complete your apprenticeship.

• Functional Skills minimum Level 4 in Maths and English

A Typical Day

You’ll be based in the workshop, learning all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance. This includes vehicle servicing, MOT preparation, major component overhauls, and electrical fault diagnostics. You’ll cover units such as:

• Materials, fabrication, tools, and measuring devices used in the commercial vehicle environment
• Inspection of heavy vehicles
• Diagnosing and rectifying chassis units, including pneumatic braking systems
• Diagnosing and rectifying engine, transmission, and electrical system faults
• Commissioning and decommissioning high voltage systems on battery electric vehicles
• Ensuring health and safety standards
• Contributing to workplace housekeeping

Requirements and Prospects

To complete the apprenticeship, you must pass Level 1 English and Maths (or have an exemption certificate) and work towards this level before the end‑point assessment.
