Job summary

Practice Plus Group is seeking a Healthcare Assistant (Nights) at HMP Altcourse. The role offers a salary of £25,557–£29,723 per year, with the first month on day shifts for training before moving to nights.

You will work 7 nights on, 7 nights off from 19:45 to 07:15 and join a team delivering primary care and substance misuse services within the prison. HMP Altcourse hosts around 1,160 adult males and offers a secure, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Care experience in care home, community, or hospital settings.
• Care Certificate or NVQ Level 2/3 in Health & Social Care.
• IT literate with basic data input.
• Resilient, proactive approach to patient care.
• Ability to work in a secure, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Support the registered nurse on the night shift for emergency response and personal care.
• Carry out administrative tasks such as updating records and data inputing.
• ILS (Immediate Life Support) and NEWS2 training provided onsite.
• Assist with admissions into the prison and carry out blood pressure checks.
• Act as pharmacy second checker and assist with medication rounds.

Our team is expanding, and we are looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join our Primary Care team, working nights.

Please be aware that your first month will be on day shifts for training and integration, then move to nights. You will complete one week of day shifts eery quarter.

Healthcare Assistants play a vital role in delivering safe, effective care and supporting each patient’s health journey.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will support a range of duties overnight, including:

• Support the registered nurse on the night shift on emergency response and personal care as needed
• Carry out administrative tasks such as updating records and data inputting
• You will be ILS (Immediate Life Support) trained by us onsite, as well as NEWS2
• Assist with admissions into the prison if required, carrying out blood pressure checks
• Acting as pharmacy second checker and assisting with medication rounds

About HMP Altcourse

HMP Altcourse is the busiest remand prison in England, accommodating approximately 1,160 adult males with an average stay of 10 weeks. Practice Plus Group provides primary care and substance misuse services across eight wings, clinic areas, inpatient facilities, and reception services.

Working Pattern

Please note, this role requires flexibility and will include unsociable hours, such as weekends and night shifts.

The working pattern is 7 nights on, 7 nights off, shifts are 19:45 - 07:15.
