Job summary

Sir Robert McAlpine is seeking expressions of interest from experienced Design Managers to help deliver the Leighton Hospital project in Crewe as part of the New Hospital Programme. This is a major opportunity to join at the early stages of a landmark healthcare programme and help shape a modern clinical environment.

The role focuses on delivering technically compliant, cost-efficient design solutions, managing design development, and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders

Qualifications

• Driven individual who thrives on complexity and client engagement.
• Experience in design management for large-scale projects (£100m+), ideally healthcare.
• Strong knowledge of CDM and Building Regulations.
• Expertise in P23, NEC3 contracts, and healthcare sector delivery.

Responsibilities

• Establish the quality of the design and verify the stage of design development and whether any elements of the design do not comply with the Employer's Requirements.
• Identify, detail and evaluate areas where the compliant design could be improved such that a better value solution could be offered in the project / tender submission.
• Assess, with the planning team, the suitability of the proposed design about the proposed method and sequence of construction and provide advice regarding proposed changes to the design.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver innovative, compliant solutions.
• Ensure adherence to statutory requirements, planning permissions, Building Regulations, CDM regulations, and contract-specific standards.
• Identify opportunities for design improvement and manage risks effectively.
