Healthcare Assistant (with Phlebotomy Skills)

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant with proven phlebotomy experience to join our dynamic clinical team. We have a current list size of over 7,600 patients. Our clinical team consists of 6 GPs, 2 practice nurses, and 2 healthcare assistants.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform phlebotomy (venepuncture) procedures safely and efficiently
  • Support nursing and medical staff with patient care
  • Take and record vital signs, observations, and basic assessments
  • Assist with patient mobility and personal care as needed
  • Ensure accurate documentation and maintenance of patient records
  • Uphold infection control procedures and confidentiality at all times
  • Administer Influenza and B12 injections
About us

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant with proven phlebotomy experience to join our dynamic clinical team. We have a current list size of over 7,600 patients. Our clinical team consists of 6 GPs, 2 practice nurses, and 2 healthcare assistants.

The main site is based in the heart of Llandaff, with a branch surgery in Pentyrch village. We are very excited about moving into newly built premises on Rhydlafar Drive in April 2026. The successful candidate will work across both sites.

Job responsibilities

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform venepuncture (blood taking) and ensure timely sample handling
  • Carry out NHS health checks, blood pressure monitoring, ECGs, and urinalysis
  • Support the management of chronic disease clinics under clinician direction
  • Conduct basic wound care and assist with minor procedures
  • Update and maintain accurate patient records on the clinical system Vision
  • Promote health education and self-care under practice protocols
  • Ensure infection control procedures and confidentiality
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Recent experience working as a Healthcare Assistant in a healthcare setting
  • Trained and competent in phlebotomy
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Professional, compassionate, and patient-centred approach
  • Experience working in general practice or primary care
  • Familiarity with Vision or EMIS clinical systems
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
