Job summary

Circle Health Group’s Beardwood Hospital is seeking a Healthcare Assistant for bank/relief shifts in the Wards department. The role supports nursing staff, delivers high-quality patient care, and includes twilight/night availability. Training is provided for clinical observations and basic procedures.

The role requires compassionate, capable individuals with good communication and basic IT skills. NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care is desirable; shifts are on an daily/overnight basis across

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with hygiene, dressing, mobility, and dignity.
• Help with eating and nutritional intake; document intake as needed.
• Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives.
• Record routine observations (BP, pulse, resp rate, temp, SpO2, glucose) after training.
• Support basic clinical procedures (wound care setup, catheter care, pressure area prevention).
• Prepare and maintain clinical areas and equipment for patient use.
• Collaborate with nurses, doctors, therapists and admin teams for safe care.

Healthcare Assistant - Wards (Bank) The Beardwood Hospital Bank Shifts Salary: £12.71 per hour

The Beardwood Hospital Is part of Circle Health Group, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join their team of staff in the Wards department. This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence. Candidates must be available to work twilight/night shifts.

Duties of this role include:

• Assist patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing, toileting, oral care, and mobility needs, respecting their preferences and dignity.
• Help patients with eating, drinking, and nutritional support, including documenting intake where appropriate.
• Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives, creating a caring and safe environment.
• Carry out and accurately record routine observations such as blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose levels (after appropriate training).
• Support basic clinical procedures, including wound care setup, assisting with catheter care, pressure area prevention, and mobility aids.
• Prepare and maintain clinical areas, including trolleys, beds, and equipment in readiness for patient use.
• Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists, and admin teams to support safe and efficient patient care.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Previous experience in a care or health support role (hospital, care home, community, or domiciliary).
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with a caring, compassionate attitude.
• Ability to follow instructions and elevate concerns appropriately.
• Basic literacy, numeracy, and IT skills.
• Physically able to undertake duties including moving and handling tasks.
• NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent qualification) desirable.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control, and confidentiality procedures.
