Job summary

Woodlands Hospital in Darlington, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join their Theatres team. This full-time, 37.5-hour-per-week role offers a permanent contract and a salary of £24,947 per year.

You’ll support patients with hygiene, mobility and nutrition, record vitals, assist with wound and catheter care, and collaborate with nurses, doctors and admins to ensure safe, compassionate patient care.

Qualifications

• Experience in care or health support roles.
• Good communication and compassionate attitude.
• Ability to follow instructions and escalate when needed.
• Basic literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
• Physically able to undertake moving and handling tasks.
• NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care desirable.
• Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control and confidentiality procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal hygiene, mobility, dressing and oral care.
• Support eating, drinking and nutrition, documenting intake.
• Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives.
• Record vital signs (BP, pulse, resp rate, temp, SpO2, glucose) after training.
• Support basic clinical tasks including wound care setup and catheter care.
• Prepare and maintain clinical areas, trolleys, beds and equipment.
• Collaborate with nurses, doctors, therapists and admin teams for safe care.

Woodlands Hospital in Darlington is part of Circle Health Group , Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join their team of staff in the Theatres department.

This is a full- time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Duties of this role include:

• Assist patients with personal hygiene, washing, dressing, toileting, oral care, and mobility needs, respecting their preferences and dignity.
• Help patients with eating, drinking, and nutritional support, including documenting intake where appropriate.
• Provide comfort and emotional support to patients and relatives, creating a caring and safe environment.
• Carry out and accurately record routine observations such as blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose levels (after appropriate training).
• Support basic clinical procedures, including wound care setup, assisting with catheter care, pressure area prevention, and mobility aids.
• Prepare and maintain clinical areas, including trolleys, beds, and equipment in readiness for patient use.
• Work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, therapists, and admin teams to support safe and efficient patient care

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Previous experience in a care or health support role (hospital, care home, community, or domiciliary).
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with a caring, compassionate attitude.
