Job summary

Glastonbury Surgery invites applications for a Healthcare Assistant to join our busy GP surgery. This 20 hours per week permanent role supports GPs, nurses and the wider MDT to promote patients' health and wellbeing.

You will be part of a friendly, patient-centered team with opportunities for training and professional development, NHS Pension, and free on-site parking. Informal visits welcome before applying.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent is essential.
  • GCSEs in English and Maths required.

Responsibilities

  • Record blood pressure, height, weight and BMI.
  • Record pulse rate and oxygen saturation levels.
  • Carry out venepuncture and ECG recordings.
  • Support NHS Health Checks and new patient health checks.
  • Carry out urinalysis and pregnancy testing.
  • Assist chronic disease monitoring clinics and infection prevention.
  • Maintain accurate patient records in the clinical system.
  • Support reception and admin duties as needed.

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our busy and well-established GP surgery.

This 20 hours per week permanent vacancy has become available following the planned retirement of a long-serving and valued member of our clinical team. We are therefore looking for someone who is enthusiastic, patient-focused and committed to delivering high-quality care.

Working alongside our GPs, nurses and wider multidisciplinary team, you will play an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our patients.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will undertake a range of clinical duties including:

  • Phlebotomy (venepuncture)
  • Measuring blood pressure, height, weight and BMI
  • ECG recordings
  • NHS Health Checks
  • New patient health checks
  • Urinalysis and specimen management
  • Supporting chronic disease monitoring clinics
  • Infection prevention and control activities
  • Stock monitoring and clinical room preparation
  • Maintaining accurate patient records using the clinical system

Job responsibilities
Patient Care
  • Record blood pressure measurements, including the use of manual techniques.
  • Measure height, weight and BMI.
  • Record pulse rates and oxygen saturation levels.
  • Conduct NHS Health Checks, if required.
  • Perform venepuncture (blood sampling).
  • Undertake ECG recordings.
  • Carry out new patient health checks.
  • Perform urinalysis and pregnancy testing.
  • Support smoking cessation and lifestyle advice under guidance.
  • Administer vaccinations where appropriately trained and authorised.
  • Carry out simple wound care and dressings as delegated by a registered clinician.
  • Assist with chronic disease monitoring clinics.
  • Act as a trained Chaperone.
  • Assist in the delivery of minor operation and specialist clinics. This includes the preparation of clinics, assisting the clinician, and competent in Basic Life Support.
Infection Prevention and Control
  • Maintain clean clinical environments.
  • Clean and prepare treatment rooms and equipment.
  • Follow infection control policies and procedures.
  • Ensure safe disposal of clinical waste and sharps.
Equipment and Stock Management
  • Monitor and maintain clinical equipment.
  • Report faulty equipment promptly.
  • Check emergency equipment and medicines as required.
  • Order and monitor stock levels of clinical supplies.
Administrative Duties
  • Prepare consulting and treatment rooms.
  • Ensure patient records are updated accurately.
  • Assist with recall systems and patient invitations.
  • Manage specimen collection and transportation procedures.
  • Code clinical information where required.
  • Support reception and administrative teams when necessary
