We are looking for an experienced Health Care Assistant to join our team for 32 hours per week, with duties including phlebotomy, ECGs, health checks, and dressing clinic assistance, working alongside GPs, nurses and the Acute

Qualifications

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths.
  • Health and Social Care or KaSPAC/STEPS certificate.
  • Experience in Ophthalmology or Primary Care desirable.

Responsibilities

  • To provide support to the practice nursing team.
  • To prepare own consulting room for effective consultation.
  • To provide care to patients according to practice approved protocols.
  • To adhere to health and safety and infection control requirements.
  • To work alongside clinicians in the provision of patient care.
  • Undertake and record measurements and tests as listed in the duties.

Job summary

Bethesda Medical Centre

We are looking for an experienced HCA to join our Team to work 32 hours a week - Monday 8am-1pm, Tuesday 8am-6.30pm, Wednesday 8am to 8pm and Thursday 8am-1pm

Previous experience in General Practice would be preferred but is not essential.

Duties will include Phlebotomy, ECGs, Health checks, assisting in dressing clinics, Diabetic checks, BPs and undertaking Ophthalmology Checks.

The successful candidate would be working alongside our GPs, Nurses and Acute Care Team to deliver excellent patient care.

Main duties of the job

Duties are varied and include general nursing tasks such as assisting in dressing clinics, chaperoning, urine analysis, ECGs and BP readings and taking blood as well as ordering medical supplies and re-stocking consulting rooms. You will also assist in the assessment and monitoring of patient health and help raise awareness of health and well-being

Job Title: Health Care Assistant

Reports to: Senior Practice Nurse

Responsible to: Practice Manager

Works closely with: Practice Nurses, Doctors, Acute Care Team, Receptionists, Administration Staff

Job Outline

  • To provide support to the practice nursing team
  • To prepare own consulting room for effective consultation
  • To provide care to patients according to and by following practice approved protocols
  • To adhere to health and safety and infection control requirements

Main Duties (according to training provided)

  • To work alongside clinicians in the provision of patient care
  • Undertake and record the following tasks:
  • Measurement of height, weight and bmi
  • 24 hour blood pressure & 24 hour ECG application
  • Capillary blood testing
  • Urinalysis
  • Measurement of blood pressure
  • ECG recording
  • Venepuncture
  • Diabetic screening
  • Diabetic foot check
  • Assist in Dressing Clinics
  • Health Checks
  • Health promotion advice as appropriate
  • Restock consulting room
  • Further skills with experience
Further skills with experience
  • Recognise changes in patients recordings and report appropriately
  • Enable patients to access the appropriate professionals in the practice team
  • Appreciate the principles of healthy living and provide dietary advice
  • Provide relevant health promotion literature
  • Follow infection control standards
  • Instruct patients in appropriate techniques/tasks after appropriate training.
  • To perform other clinical tasks as trained and agreed to meet the needs of the practice
  • To engage in audit, and invite patients for necessary investigations/checks.
  • Invite patients for screening/other follow up appointments
  • Other tasks the Senior Practice Nurse requests with appropriate training/instruction
Responsibility

The job holder must work as part of a team, have the ability to organise and prioritize own workload on a day to day basis and observe strict rules about patient confidentiality at all times. The job holder must know when to seek direction from the Practice Nurse, Doctor, or Practice Manager.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths,
  • Qualification in Health and Social Care or a KaSPAC or STEPS certificate
Desirable
  • Experience in Ophthalmology,
  • Previous experience in Primary Care,
  • A Care Certificate
