Job summary

Vita Healthcare is looking for a Healthcare Assistant to join our general practice team across 4 Bexhill-based sites. You will support the nursing team to deliver safe, compassionate care and engage in NHS health checks, wound care, and routine clinical tasks.

The role requires prior primary care experience, GCSEs in Maths/English, and healthcare certificates or equivalent. EMIS experience is desirable; training available where needed. Permanent, with flexible full-time/part-time patterns.

Qualifications

• Experience in Primary Care is essential.
• Familiar with EMIS clinical system is desirable.
• GCSE Maths and English at A-C and healthcare qualifications are required.
• Successful completion of the Care Certificate (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Undertake clinical activities including ECGs, blood tests, wound care, and NHS health checks.
• Process samples and maintain patient records using clinical templates.
• Monitor infection control standards and COSHH compliance.
• Assist with weekly stock checks and ordering of medical supplies and equipment.
• Communicate effectively with patients, carers and colleagues, respecting diverse needs and backgrounds.
• Adhere to practice policies, safeguarding and health and safety requirements.

Job summary

We are looking to recruit a dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly general practice team, working across our 4 Bexhill practices. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting the nursing team to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

• Undertake clinical activities including ECG's, blood tests, wound care, and NHS health checks.
• Support annual health promotion activities (for diabetes and anti-coagulation).
• Process samples and maintain accurate patient records using clinical templates.
• Monitor and maintain infection control standards, including fridge temperature checks and COSHH compliance.
• Assist with weekly checks of stock and calibration of equipment.
• Manage stock rotation and ordering of medical supplies and equipment as required.
• Communicate effectively with patients, carers, and colleagues, adapting to different needs and cultural backgrounds.
• Ensure adherence to practice policies and procedures, safeguarding, and health and safety requirements.

About us

Vita Healthcare has 8 GP practices in Eastbourne, Bexhill and Seaford.

We have a nursing team consisting of ANP's, Practice Nurses, Nurse Associate's, Health Care Assistant's and Phlebotomists.

We work closely with the General Practitioners, Paramedic Practitioners and allied healthcare professionals.

In Bexhill our practices we look after around 17,000 patients.

Job responsibilities

As part of Nursing Team and following training you may undertake:

• measurement of height, weight, blood pressure
• urine analysis
• patient NHS health checks and annual health checks
• Carrying out ECGs and 24hr BP monitoring
• Spirometry screening and FeNO measurements
• Warfarin reviews
• Phlebotomy
• Simple dressings
• Compression bandaging and complex wound care with training
• Administration of B12 injections

• Previous experience in Primary Care

• Familiar with EMIS clinical system

Qualifications

Essential

• GCSE Maths and English A to C
• Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) or NVQ/OCF level 2 or 3
• in Healthcare or equivalent
• Successful completion of the Care Certificate (or equivalent)

Desirable

• Qualified in phlebotomy
