Job summary

Priory Nelson House in Gosport, Hampshire, is recruiting a Healthcare Assistant on a permanent full-time basis. The role involves night shifts, direct patient care, and supporting qualified staff in assessment and care planning.

Location at Nelson House offers access by public transport and a structured pathway into clinical positions. You will work as part of a compassionate team, focusing on dignity, wellbeing and rehabilitation for males with complex needs, within a level 1/2 care setting.

Qualifications

  • Educated to a minimum NVQ 1 or GCSEs in Mathematics and English.
  • Understands the need for strict confidentiality.
  • Basic IT literacy.
  • Regular interaction with staff, patients and visitors; well-developed observational/listening skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified staff with assessment and implementation of patient care plans and routine tasks.
  • Provide personal care and support while complying with procedures and healthcare legislation.
  • Observe and monitor patient wellbeing; refer unusual findings to senior staff.
  • Carry out delegated interventions by a Registered Nurse and assist with engagement and de-escalation.
  • Support a team approach and participate in ward meetings; maintain records and infection control standards.

Full Time 37.5 Hours- Mainly night shifts.
Priory Nelson House has an opportunity for a Healthcare Assistant to join our team.
Priory Hospital Nelson House, Gosport, Hampshire is a rehabilitation service offering level 1 and level 2 care for males with mental health conditions and complex needs, including behaviours that challenge and substance misuse issues. It is accessible by public transport, with local bus routes along Rowner Road and Portsmouth Harbour railway station approximately 3-4 miles from the service.

What you'll be doing

You will be part of a compassionate team who are committed to our patients wellbeing. We take a personalised approach, using proven therapies to help people move forward with confidence and build a healthier, more fulfilling future. You will play a key part in their recovery, assisting qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans, undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed or delegated to facilitate wellbeing, dignity and treatment of patients

  • Mainly Night's Assists qualified staff with the assessment and implementation of individual patient care plans undertaking routine tasks and activities as directed to facilitate the wellbeing, dignity and treatment of all patients.
  • Provides practical support and responsive care to patients who require assistance with intimate personal needs such as dressing, bathing and toileting activities ensuring that such activities comply with procedures and the relevant healthcare legislation.
  • Observes and monitors the wellbeing of patients ensuring that any unusual physical, mental or emotional occurrences are promptly referred to senior staff/the primary nurse and documented as appropriate.
  • Provide specific interventions with patients as delegated by a Registered Nurse, and following training and competency attainment. Such interventions include Observation and Engagement with Patients, escorting patients on leave, and being involved in de-escalation and management of violence and aggression.
  • Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in regular ward meetings and attend other meetings as requested.
  • To assist in the maintenance of stock levels, including pharmaceutical products.
  • To assist in the maintenance of ward cleanliness and tidiness and adhere to infection control policy and procedures at all times.
  • Develops and maintains a good professional relationship with patients, colleagues and visitors responding promptly and courteously to requests and enquiries.
  • Help promote and maintain an environment conducive to meeting the needs of the patient / relatives and carers.
  • Ensure service users are gaining a quality service that is value for their money.
  • To receive and convey information from telephone or personal enquiries in a courteous manner and ensure all persons visiting the ward are greeted and assisted in a welcoming and supportive manner. Information
  • Shared responsibility for the confidentiality, security and accuracy of records, data and information. Ensuring good quality documentation, which meets the regulatory guidelines and statutory requirements.
