Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health, Safety & Technical Manager to join our Demolition team, working from our Warrington office.

Salary: £50,000 to £55,000 per annum (dependent on experience) + company car

About The Role

A practical role combining health and safety management with the technical planning of demolition works. We need someone who understands how demolition is carried out, can write clear, site-specific RAMS and is confident enough to challenge unsafe working practices. This is a site-facing position, not a paperwork-only safety role.

Main Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review demolition risk assessments, method statements, sequences and safe systems of work. Documents must be specific to the job and usable by the site team.
  • Work with Contracts Managers and site teams to plan demolition operations, addressing structural stability, temporary works, plant and pedestrian interfaces, services, lifting operations, exclusion zones and asbestos-related risks.
  • Coordinate technical input from structural engineers and temporary works designers, including design briefs, reviews and the incorporation of agreed controls into site documentation.
  • Carry out regular site visits, inspections and audits; challenge poor practice and make sure corrective actions are completed, not simply recorded.
  • Provide practical advice to Site Managers and Supervisors, support site briefings and require unsafe activities to be paused where adequate controls are not in place.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses, identify underlying causes and support changes to procedures and working practices.
  • Support tender and pre-start planning where technical or safety input is needed, and liaise with clients, consultants and Rhodar’s HSEQ team.
Experience And Qualifications
  • Substantial experience in demolition, with a sound understanding of demolition methods, sequencing and the realities of working on live sites.
  • Proven ability to write demolition RAMS and assess complex or unusual operations, rather than relying on standard templates.
  • Good working knowledge of BS 6187, CDM 2015 and relevant health and safety legislation, particularly structural stability and temporary works arrangements.
  • A recognised health and safety qualification, such as the NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent, with relevant IOSH membership.
  • Membership of the Institute of Demolition Engineers (IDE), ideally MIDE, is strongly preferred. Applicants with equivalent experience and a clear route to membership will also be considered.
  • NVQ Level 6 in Demolition Management, SMSTS and Temporary Works Coordinator training would be advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to projects across the UK.
Whatmatters

Sound judgement, credibility with site teams and the ability to turn technical and safety requirements into workable methods. The person appointed must be comfortable taking ownership, making decisions and following issues through to completion.
