Job summary

Amey is offering a Health & Safety Apprentice position in Manchester, within the Transport Infrastructure unit. You will be enrolled on the Level 3 Safety, Health and Environment Technician apprenticeship over ~27 months, with college and Amey support, mentorship, and on-the-job learning.

The role involves supporting HSEQ activities across contracts, assisting with site inspections, risk assessments and safety campaigns.

Qualifications

• Enthusiastic and eager to learn in a supportive team.
• Must hold a Full UK driving licence.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old for consideration.
• Random drug and alcohol testing may be conducted as part of safety commitments.

Responsibilities

• Support delivery of HSEQ activities across contracts.
• Assist with site inspections, audits and assurance activities, day and night, year-round.
• Monitor Safe Systems of Work, risk assessments and procedures.
• Assist investigations into incidents and near-misses; help capture lessons learned.
• Collect, analyse and report HSEQ performance data and metrics.
• Promote Amey Zero Code and safety culture across the workforce.
• Participate in depot inspections and compliance reviews.
• Assist with risk assessments and SSOWs documentation.
• Support safety briefings, toolbox talks and engagement initiatives.
• Build relationships with operatives, supervisors and clients across contracts.
• Ensure compliance with ISO, legal and client HSEQ requirements.
• Maintain records and documentation according to procedures.
• Attend apprenticeship activities to achieve Level 3 qualification and development objectives.
• Contribute to continuous improvement in safety, quality and environmental performance.
