Job summary

Principal People is recruiting two Health & Safety Advisors for major infrastructure works across Yorkshire. You’ll work with a Tier 1 contractor, providing hands-on HS&E support, influencing risk decisions, and supporting safe, compliant project delivery across pipeline, civils and water main schemes.

The role covers site-based, office and hybrid work arrangements, with 2–3 days on site and 1–2 days in the office, plus potential for a company car or allowance and a comprehensive benefits

Qualifications

• NEBOSH qualification is essential or equivalent.
• Experience with Tier 1 infrastructure environments preferred.
• Strong practical health and safety mindset with ability to influence.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical HS&E support across Yorkshire and Northumbria projects.
• Identify risks with operational teams and promote a positive safety culture.
• Support pipeline installation, heavy civils, excavations and water main schemes.
• Conduct site inspections, audits and reviews on live sites.
• Review RAMS and Construction Phase Plans; advise on temporary works.
• Guide on excavations, service avoidance and plant interfaces.
• Lead incident investigations and share lessons learned.
• Build relationships with clients, supply chain and operations.
• Challenge practices constructively to improve safe project delivery.

The Opportunity

Do you want a Health & Safety role where you can genuinely influence how major infrastructure projects are planned and delivered?

Principal People are working with a leading Tier 1 infrastructure contractor to recruit 2 x Health & Safety Advisors to support a major infrastructure framework across Yorkshire. Driven by significant growth and an increasing workload, the contractor has approximately 20 live projects, with further expansion anticipated across its secured infrastructure portfolio.

The work is increasingly focused on pipeline installation, heavy civils, excavations, service avoidance and water main replacement schemes, offering the opportunity to get involved in a varied portfolio of essential infrastructure projects. You'll join an established and growing H&S team, working closely with operational teams throughout the project lifecycle. This is a hands‑on role for someone who can bring a practical, forward‑thinking approach to health and safety, influence decision‑making and act as a trusted advisor to the business.

What you will be doing

• Providing practical HS&E support across infrastructure projects throughout Yorkshire and parts of Northumbria.
• Working closely with operational teams to identify risks, improve performance and promote a positive health and safety culture.
• Supporting projects involving pipeline installation, heavy civils, excavations, service avoidance and water main replacement.
• Conducting site inspections, audits and HS&E reviews across live projects.
• Reviewing RAMS, Construction Phase Plans and wider project documentation.
• Providing guidance on temporary works, excavations, service avoidance and plant interface activities.
• Supporting incident investigations, identifying lessons learned and driving continuous improvement.
• Building strong relationships with operational teams, clients and supply‑chain partners.
• Constructively challenging operational practices where required, acting as a critical friend to the business and supporting safe, effective project delivery.

What they are looking for

• NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate, or equivalent.
• Experience within a Tier 1 contractor environment is strongly preferred.
• Background within construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, highways or a similar environment.
• A practical, proactive approach to health and safety, with the ability to influence operational teams and drive continuous improvement.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
• The roles will predominantly cover infrastructure projects across the respective regions, with a mix of site‑based work, office attendance and hybrid working.
• Typically, the working arrangement will involve 2-3 days on site, 1 day in the office and 1 day working from home, depending on project requirements.
