Job summary

Principal People are recruiting a Health and Safety Advisor to support major water infrastructure projects across Scotland. This hybrid role involves regular travel to sites, delivering practical HS&E advice and ensuring UK legislation compliance as part of the Scotland framework.

You will report to the Health and Safety Manager, promoting a positive safety culture, supporting ISO 14001, and contributing to continuous improvements across projects.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction, infrastructure, utilities or water sectors is required.
• Strong understanding of HS&E legislation and risk management is essential.
• Confident communicator who can engage operational teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Support the delivery of the HS&E strategy across the framework.
• Provide practical HS&E advice to site teams and operations.
• Review Construction Phase Plans, RAMS and project documentation.
• Conduct site inspections, HS&E reviews and environmental audits.
• Help drive ISO 14001 and environmental performance improvements.
• Investigate incidents, identify root causes and support corrective actions.
• Monitor HS&E performance using KPIs and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Deliver HS&E briefings and training to staff and subcontractors.
• Assist with supply chain onboarding and ongoing HS&E monitoring.

Principal People are working with a leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor to recruit a Health and Safety Advisor to support projects across the Scottish Water framework. This is a hybrid role with regular travel to sites across Scotland, partnering closely with operational and project teams delivering essential water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the safe delivery of projects by providing practical health and safety advice, ensuring compliance with company procedures and UK legislation, and helping to drive continuous improvement across the framework.

This is a highly visible, site‑focused position that will suit someone who enjoys building relationships, influencing operational teams, and promoting a positive safety culture through collaboration rather than enforcement.

What you will be doing:

• Monitoring HS&E performance through KPIs and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
• Delivering HS&E briefings, training and best practice guidance.
• Supporting supply chain onboarding and ongoing HS&E performance monitoring.
• Building strong relationships with clients, contractors and operational stakeholders.

You will need:

• NEBOSH Construction or General Certificate as a minimum.
• Experience within construction, infrastructure, utilities or water sectors.
• Strong understanding of HS&E legislation, management systems and risk management.
• Confident communicator with the ability to engage operational teams and stakeholders
