UK Atomic Energy Authority invites applications for a Health Physics Analytical Laboratory Technician at Culham. The role focuses on radionuclide and beryllium evaluation within Health Physics, ensuring safety and efficiency, with involvement in ISO 17025 UKAS accreditation.

Key duties include sample evaluation, PAS and TWA processing, data validation, equipment maintenance, and supporting method development while contributing to a compliant and high-performing laboratory environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in accredited laboratory to ISO 17025 or similar.
• Education to HNC level in a science discipline.
• Experience in method development or validation.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate samples for Beryllium by UV fluorescence and Tritium by Liquid Scintillation Counting.
• Prepare and process Personal Air Sampler (PAS) and Tritium in Water Analysis (TWA) to support UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation.
• Quality check of counting parameters and record results onto LIMS, then calculate and validate data prior to publication to internal customers.
• Maintenance and verification of laboratory equipment to ensure fit for purpose.
• Support Senior Technicians in method validation, modification and improvement.
• Support routine laboratory functions: records, glassware cleaning, waste prep/processing, consumables, etc.

Health Physics Analytical Laboratory Technician

The salary for this role is £32,903. Onsite working is expected for 5days a week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.

This role can be based at any of the following sites:Culham.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

The Role

As Health Physics Analytical Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for the provision of radionuclide and beryllium evaluation services to UKAEA in Health Physics laboratory, ensuring safety and efficiency. You will also be supporting the maintenance and improvement of laboratory analysis techniques under the scope of ISO 17025 UKAS accreditation (Personal Air Sampling and Tritium in Water analysis).

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the evaluationof samples for the determinationof Beryllium by UV fluorescence, and analysis of samples for Tritium by Liquid Scintillation Counting.
• Undertake Personal Air Sampler (PAS) preparation and processing, and Tritium in Water Analysis (TWA) to support UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation.
• Performing quality check of internal counting parameters and recording evaluationresults onto Local Information Management System (LIMS) samples database. Calculating and validating data prior to publication to internal customers.
• Responsible for maintenance and verification of laboratory equipment to ensure their fit for purpose.
• Provide support to Senior Technicians in method validation, modification, and improvement.
• Carry out support duties for the routine functioning of the laboratory, e.g., record keeping, glassware cleaning, preparation and processing of waste, monitoring the laboratory consumables, and other tasks.
