UK Atomic Energy Authority is seeking a Health Physics Analytical Laboratory Technician to support radionuclide and beryllium evaluation services within its Health Physics laboratory in Culham, Oxfordshire. The role supports ISO 17025 UKAS accreditation and involves maintaining equipment and contributing to method validation.

The position requires completing BPSS/DBS checks and will be based on the Culham site with a full-time schedule and flexible working options.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Level 3 education in a science discipline.
  • Desirable: Education to HNC level in a science discipline.
  • Experience in accredited laboratory to ISO 17025 or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the evaluation of samples for the determination of Beryllium by UV fluorescence, and analysis of samples for Tritium by Liquid Scintillation Counting.
  • Undertake Personal Air Sampler (PAS) preparation and processing, and Tritium in Water Analysis (TWA) to support UKAS ISO 17025 accreditation.
  • Performing quality check of internal counting parameters and recording evaluation results onto Local Information Management System (LIMS) samples database.
  • Calculating and validating data prior to publication to internal customers.
  • Responsible for maintenance and verification of laboratory equipment to ensure their fit for purpose.
  • Provide support to Senior Technicians in method validation, modification, and improvement.
  • Carry out support duties for the routine functioning of the laboratory, e.g., record keeping, glassware cleaning, preparation and processing of waste, monitoring the laboratory consumables, and other tasks.

Overview of ResponsibilitiesThe salary for this role is £32,903 . Onsite working is expected for 5 days a week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working. This role can be based at any of the following sites: Culham. This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data. As Health Physics Analytical Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for the provision of radionuclide and beryllium evaluation services to UKAEA in Health Physics laboratory, ensuring safety and efficiency. You will also be supporting the maintenance and improvement of laboratory analysis techniques under the scope of ISO 17025 UKAS accreditation (Personal Air Sampling and Tritium in Water analysis).
