Job summary

A leading energy research organization is seeking a Senior Data Analysis Physicist to lead the development of advanced data analysis techniques. You will collaborate on international scientific programs, proposing solutions for complex physics problems using statistical methodologies. The role requires a PhD or equivalent expertise in Tokamak physics and substantial experience with algorithms and numerical methods. Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent level of knowledge of Tokamak physics.
  • Substantial experience with numerical methods, algorithms and large‑scale code development for data analysis.
  • Proven ability to carry out detailed analysis of experimental data.
  • Proficiency with programming languages such as Python, C, C++, FORTRAN, IDL, Java.
  • Proven ability to lead independent physics research.

Responsibilities

Job Description

The salary for this role is £57,117 (inclusive of a Specialist Allowance). Onsite working is expected for 3 days each week, however, we actively support requests for flexible working.

This role can be based at any of the following sites: Culham, Oxfordshire.

This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.

The Role

As Senior Data Analysis Physicist you will be leading the development and application of advanced data analysis techniques in support of UKAEA and international scientific programmes.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Leading the design and development of software frameworks for advanced data analysis tasks.
  • Proposing and delivering analysis using state‑of‑the‑art statistical techniques to solve physics problems in support of the wider UKAEA scientific program.
  • Providing expert advice on numerical data analysis techniques internally and to international collaborators.
  • Disseminating results at internal meetings and through international conferences and peer reviewed journal papers.
Qualifications
  • PhD or equivalent level of knowledge of Tokamak physics.
  • Substantial experience with numerical methods, algorithms and large‑scale code development for data analysis, including Bayesian and other advanced statistical techniques.
  • Proven ability to carry out detailed analysis of experimental data, use of suitable tools, uncertainty quantification, etc.
  • Proficiency with programming languages, e.g. Python, C, C++, FORTRAN, IDL, Java.
  • Proven ability to lead independent physics research.
