Aneurin Bevan University Health Board supports flexible working.

Please be advised that there is a temporary top-up for Bands 2 and 3 to reflect the incorporation of the top-up to the living wage of £12.60 per hour - £24,638 per annum.

This temporary top-up will be in place until the annual pay uplift for 2025/26 is confirmed.

Job Overview

The Health Care Support Worker will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. They should have good communication skills, both written and verbal, and be committed to providing high standards of care for patients, their families, and carers within a hospital setting, with a willingness to learn and develop skills to support the smooth running of Ophthalmology clinics. Must work well in a team.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

  • Successfully complete a locally approved orientation programme.
  • Support a clinical environment that is patient and public focused.
  • Assist patients in achieving physical, spiritual, and psychological comfort.
  • Participate in the delivery of patient care and undertake clinical duties that are allocated and directly supervised by a registered nurse.
  • Share information relating to patient care with the Team Leader.
  • Assist with patients' personal hygiene needs.
  • Assist with patients' nutritional needs, including assistance with feeding.
  • Report any changes in a patient’s condition to the nurse in charge and respond to clinical urgencies.
  • Utilize customer care skills when caring for patients and relatives.
  • Escort and accompany patients needing to attend appointments within the Trust.
  • Maintain and protect confidential information relating to patients.
  • Undertake any other duties consistent with the overall grade of the post.
