Job Description:

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million, extending to 2.2 million with regional and national services.

The shift pattern for this role is Monday to Friday, 0900 to 1700.

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Health Care Support Worker within the North East Alcohol and Drug Recovery Service. Glasgow Alcohol & Drug Recovery Service is dedicated to delivering high-quality, integrated care. You will work as part of a large team managing clients with complex drug and alcohol issues, along with associated physical and mental health problems. Under supervision of trained nurses, you will support engagement and retention of vulnerable service users, and assist staff within the team. Collaboration with Children and Families and Criminal Justice Services will be essential. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, committed, and possess excellent communication skills.

Your responsibilities will include assertively outreaching to hard-to-reach and vulnerable service users, employing flexible, person-centered approaches to facilitate their engagement in care and treatment. The model aims to reduce health inequalities and target those most at risk.

  • Provision of swift referral to Opiate Replacement Treatment
  • Conducting health interventions such as alcohol/drug screening, drug toxicology testing, BAC assessment (breathalyser), and Blood Borne Virus (BBV) testing
  • Supporting service users to identify recovery opportunities and working closely with Recovery Hubs and Communities
  • Facilitating transition from access to other services
  • Responding quickly to referrals from hospitals for patients who frequently attend but do not engage with community support, addressing unmet needs and closing health inequality gaps. Key tasks include risk assessment, relapse prevention, harm reduction, and motivational interventions.
