Job Summary

Welcome to FCMS!

We are looking for an enthusiastic and professional Healthcare Assistant to join us at the Morecambe Urgent Treatment Centre in Lancashire. The service operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Pay details: £12.80 per hour. We provide enhancements for Saturdays / Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Hours: Flexible hours, Part time & Full time considered.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake a range of clinical duties including venepuncture, ECGs, wound care, observations, and applying plaster of paris to patients with fractures and personal care to patients.

The post holder will also contribute to administrative, reception/floorwalker and housekeeping duties within the service location.

Job responsibilities

Duties And Responsibilities
  1. Post holder will ensure prompt reporting of any relevant information regarding patients including observation of progress or deterioration in the patients condition to the trained staff.
  2. Endeavour to maintain good standards of communication both in written and oral form.
  3. Make entries on patient records to record clinical interventions.
  4. Make entries in the clinical notes using the service areas computer programmes ADASTRA and EMIS.
  5. Communicate with patients and carers in a polite and pleasant manner.
  6. Receive and deliver patient related information to and from other departments via the telephone/emails.
  7. Acknowledge and accommodate barriers to communication and understanding including speech, hearing, language, and emotion.
  8. May be required to encourage patients to comply with programmes of care.
  9. Initiate emergency action when required.
  10. Obtain and dispatch specimens on request.
  11. Undertake routine administration and reception.
  12. Assist patients using our self-assessment device (Floorwalker role).
  13. Assist in the ordering and supplying of materials and equipment e.g. stores after authorisation by the reception team leader.
  14. Inform the Lead Clinician on shift of any untoward incidents.
  15. Take responsibility for the cleaning and stocking of clinical areas.
  16. Dispose of clinical waste in a safe manner for each clinical room.
  17. Contribute to infection control measures by adhering to infection control policies/procedures.

Education and In Service Training

Be fully conversant in all the clinical computer systems used within Morecambe Urgent Treatment Centre.

Attend relevant study/induction days, seminars, courses etc. for individual development and for the benefit of the service. Keep up to date with compliance and mandatory training.

Confidentiality

In the course of your duties, you may have access to confidential information about patients, staff or health service business. On no account must such information be divulged to anyone who is not authorised to receive it. Confidentiality of information must be preserved at all times whether at or away from work. FCMS has in place a Whistle blowers Policy for staff wishing to express concerns.

Data Protection Act, 1998

Carry out any requirements within the duties applicable to the Data Protection Act, 1998.

Health and Safety At Work Act, 1974

Observe all responsibilities and carry out all duties, whether general to all employees or specific to the post, relating to Health and Safety in accordance with the Practice and Departmental Safety Policies and any statutory requirements.

If you have other work or outside interests, this must not conflict with your duties and responsibilities of your attendance for work as an employee of the Service.

It is a condition of appointment that you must inform your manager before taking up any private practice, work for outside agencies or other employers, other work for this Practice (including bank work), voluntary work or outside interests you have or propose to have. This is to ensure there is no question of it creating a conflict of interest with your NHS duties. You must also therefore seek your manager's approval before taking on any such other work or outside interest at any time after entering employment.

Disclosure/Criminal Record (DBS)

This post will be subject to enhanced disclosure under DBS. This will require three forms of valid ID to be produced and verified. The onboarding process is also subject to an Occupational Health check, suitable professional references and eligibility to work in the UK (with the requirement to provide relevant documentation as evidence).
