Job summary

MedGen Healthcare is seeking compassionate Mental Health Healthcare Assistants to support children and young people with complex needs in Torbay. You will provide emotional support, aid daily living activities, and help implement behaviour plans within a safe, structured environment.

Applicants should have at least 6 months UK experience as a Healthcare Assistant, a current enhanced DBS, PMVA training, and the ability to work flexibly across full-time, part-time or temporary roles.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months UK experience as a Healthcare Assistant
  • Experience supporting individuals with Autism, ADHD and challenging behaviour
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • In-date PMVA training (or willingness to complete training)
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries

Responsibilities

  • Provide emotional support to children and young people in distress or with behavioural challenges
  • Support routines, transitions and sensory needs for individuals with autism and ADHD
  • Assist with daily living activities including personal care, meals and hygiene
  • Implement behaviour support plans and positive behaviour strategies
  • De-escalate challenging behaviours using PMVA techniques when necessary
  • Maintain accurate records of care and incidents
  • Create a safe, nurturing and structured environment tailored to individual needs

MedGen Healthcare is seeking compassionate, resilient, and dedicated Mental Health Healthcare Assistants to provide high-quality care and support to children and young people with complex mental health needs.

This role involves supporting children and adolescents with conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, emotional and behavioural difficulties, and other additional needs. You will play a vital role in helping young people feel safe, understood, and supported in their daily lives.

The Role

As a Mental Health Healthcare Assistant, you will:

  • Provide consistent emotional support and reassurance to children experiencing anxiety, distress, or behavioural challenges.
  • Support children with autism and ADHD to manage routines, transitions, and sensory sensitivities.
  • Assist with daily living activities, including personal care, mealtimes, hygiene, and maintaining a structured routine.
  • Implement behaviour support plans and positive behaviour strategies in line with care plans.
  • Safely manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours using PMVA techniques where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate, clear, and timely records of care provided and incidents.
  • Promote a safe, nurturing, structured, and stimulating environment tailored to individual needs.

  • Experience supporting individuals with Autism, ADHD, and challenging behaviour.
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
  • In date PMVA training (or willingness to do).
