Job summary

Parklands Patient Group in East Northants is seeking a Health Care Assistant to join our busy nursing team. You will work on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in our friendly practice.

Main duties include wound care, ECGs, ear irrigation, phlebotomy assistance and vaccinations under appropriate training. You will support chronic disease clinics and record observations and patient notes with care.

Qualifications

• Wound care experience.
• Experience in a primary care or healthcare environment.
• Competent in administering vaccinations.

Responsibilities

• Undertake wound care, cleansing, dressing changes and assess wounds.
• Assist with ECGs, phlebotomy and minor surgical procedures.
• Record patient data accurately and support vaccination delivery.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our well established nursing team. You will be working on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in our busy, friendly East Northants practice.

Main duties of the job

General treatment room duties including wound care/dressing, ECGs, ear irrigation, phlebotomy assisting with minor surgical procedures.

About us

We are a well respected practice with over 14,000 patients, using EMIS Web. Focusing on patient centred care, our team of 8 GPs, 4 Nurse Practitioners and 6 Treatment Room Nurses is supported by our experienced team of administrators.

Job responsibilities

Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the healthcare assistant. Theremay be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will bedependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

• - Undertake wound care, cleansing, irrigating and assessing wounds, applying a variety of dressings using appropriate techniques.
• - Removal of staples and sutures
• - Undertake new patient health checks
• - Carry out baseline observations recording findings accurately
• - Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advisingpatients accordingly
• - Support the practice nurse with the management of chronicdisease clinics
• - Carry out BMI checks as directed
• - Act as a chaperone as required
• - Administer vaccinations under appropriate PSD (vaccination training can be provided)
• - Carry out ear irrigation
• - Carry out ECGs as requested
• - Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onwardtransportation
• - Provide support during minor operations as required
• - Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked andprepared for each session
• - Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance withinfection control protocol
• - Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas andsharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
• - Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

Secondary Responsibilities

Inaddition to the primary responsibilities, the healthcare assistant may berequested to:

• - Participate in practice audit as directed
• - Participate in local initiatives to enhance servicedelivery and patient care
• - Support and participate in shared learning within thepractice
• - Complete opening and closing procedures in accordancewith the duty rota

Qualifications

• Experience of working in a primary care or healthcare environment
• Experience of working with the general public
• Experience of accurately recording clinical notes using EMIS Web.
• Competent in administering vaccinations
