Job summary

Story Terrace Inc. is seeking a Health Care Assistant for Westerhope Medical Group to support clinical and administrative tasks within a GP practice.

The role involves assisting in clinical procedures, promoting health and wellness, and helping ensure smooth operation of the practice. The successful candidate will have experience in a primary care setting, be skilled in phlebotomy, wound care, and infection control, and be comfortable conducting new patient health checks.

Qualifications

• Experience in a primary care or GP practice setting.
• Proficiency in wound care, dressings and clinical assessments.
• Ability to conduct new patient health checks and baseline observations.
• Knowledge of infection control procedures and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive new patient health assessments and document findings accurately.
• Assist in chronic disease management and health promotion clinics.
• Perform baseline clinical observations including pulse, BP, temperature and pulse rate.
• Conduct phlebotomy and ensure safe handling of blood samples.
• Facilitate routine and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring and provide guidance.
• Administer wound care, dressings and minor clinical procedures.
• Record BMI accurately and act as chaperone during examinations when required.
• Carry out ECGs as directed and support vaccinations/immunisations.
• Ensure meticulous record-keeping in line with practice protocols.

Salary: £12.89 per hour

Working hours: Monday, Thursday & Friday 8am – 5pm (25.5hrs a week)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our dedicated team, supporting

both clinical and administrative functions to ensure the highest standard of patient care. As an

integral part of our multi-disciplinary team, you will assist in various clinical procedures, promote

health and wellness, and contribute to the smooth operation of the practice.

This role is ideal for a proactive, compassionate individual who is eager to work in a fast-paced

environment and make a meaningful impact on patient health and well‑being.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive new patient health assessments and document findings accurately.
• Assist in chronic disease management and health promotion clinics, working closely with practice nurses.
• Perform baseline clinical observations, including pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate.
• Conduct phlebotomy and ensure safe and efficient handling of blood samples.
• Facilitate routine and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, providing patient guidance where necessary.
• Administer wound care, dressings, and other minor clinical procedures within scope.
• Accurately measure and record Body Mass Index (BMI) for patients.
• Act as a chaperone during patient examinations when required.
• Carry out ECGs as directed by clinicians.
• Vaccinations and immunisations.
• Ensure meticulous record-keeping in line with practice protocols and compliance regulations.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Experience in a primary care or GP practice setting.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to follow clinical protocols.
• Experience in conducting new patient health checks.
• Proficiency in wound care, dressings, and clinical assessments.
• Skilled in phlebotomy procedures.
• Knowledge of infection control procedures and best practices.

Desirable Qualifications & Skills

• Familiarity with EMIS Web.
• NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.
• Additional training in chronic disease management or smoking cessation.
