Job Title: Health Care Assistant/Phlebotomist (part time, 24 hours, permanent)

Salary: On application, dependent on experience.

Job Summary:

We are a friendly GP surgery looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and organised applicant to join our team as a part-time Health Care Assistant.

The main roles of the Health Care Assistant will include undertaking clinical care tasks, clinical support tasks, restocking, and stock rotation. Essential clinical care tasks include daily phlebotomy sessions and basic wound care. A qualification in phlebotomy is essential for this role.

The practice is located 25 minutes from Cardiff and Swansea, less than a mile from Junction 37 of the M4.

Main duties of the job

RESPONSIBLE TO

The HCA is responsible primarily to the Lead Practice Nurse and then to the Partner for all clinical matters. The HCA is responsible to the Practice Manager for administrative and employment matters.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of the post is to support the nurse and doctor teams by undertaking patient care tasks, clinical support tasks, infection control tasks, restocking, and stock rotation.

SCOPE OF THE JOB

The HCA will perform tasks prescribed and delegated by the clinical team, working to agreed protocols and within defined competencies.

We are a friendly GP practice consisting of 6 partners, 1 full-time nurse, 1 part-time HCA, and supported by an experienced admin team. Approximately 9,000 patients are registered here.

We work closely together to ensure the smooth running of the surgery.

Job responsibilities

The main roles of the Health Care Assistant include undertaking clinical care tasks, clinical support tasks, restocking, and stock rotation. Essential clinical care tasks include daily phlebotomy sessions (including INR).

Desirable knowledge includes: complex and simple wound care, diabetic foot checks (training can be provided if needed).

Person Specification

Experience

• Ability to perform phlebotomy is essential - primary or secondary care experience acceptable.
• Experience working on the Vision system is desirable but training can be provided.
• Experience working within a GP practice is desirable.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification to perform phlebotomy is essential.
• Skills in simple and complex wound care.
• Skills in diabetic foot checks.
