Oxford City Council is currently recruiting a Health and Safety Manager. You will oversee health and safety across various services and employees. As the senior authority on health and safety, you will shape and steer the corporate framework, working closely with senior leaders and managers to develop effective policies, standards, and procedures that address risks and align with legislation and best practices.

We are looking for an experienced health and safety professional with a strong strategic and leadership background. You will need:

  • In-depth Knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices, with proven ability to interpret and apply these effectively.
  • Strong Communication Skills to effectively guide, influence, and support senior leaders.
  • Investigative Skills to monitor, audit, and respond to performance issues.
  • Proven Track Record of developing health and safety policies.
  • Leadership Capability to drive culture change and embed safe practices across the organisation.

What you will need:

  • NEBOSH qualified and Chartered Membership of IOSH.
  • Comprehensive experience as a health and safety lead professional, including design and production of policy, guidance, and standards.
  • Analytical skills to interpret data and trends and identify key risks.
  • Experience of changing/improving the health and safety culture in an organisation.
  • Experience of identifying and specifying health and safety training needs and designing and delivering suitable training programs.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Able to translate legislation into management practices.
  • Experience of planning and monitoring workload and programs to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to offer accurate and consistent advice to managers and leaders.
  • Knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act and related regulations.
  • Clear and sensitive communication skills.
  • Experience managing software systems for record-keeping.
