Job summary

The Bedford College Group is seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator to join our Health and Safety department at Tresham College and across campuses. You will lead compliance, risk assessment and training to support safe learning environments.

Working 37 hours per week, you will drive continuous improvement, deliver safety briefings and reports, and collaborate with managers to embed safeguarding, equality, and wellbeing across the Group.

Qualifications

  • Holds a NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) and demonstrates commitment to ongoing development through first aid training and the acquisition of specialist health and safety competencies across a range of disciplines.
  • Experience in producing reports and managing data with attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to prioritise, travel between campuses and maintain professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Health & Safety Compliance & Assurance - support the development, monitoring and improvement of safety systems.
  • Audits, risk management & accident prevention - conduct inspections and support risk assessments.
  • Advice, training & stakeholder support - deliver safety briefings and training.

Role: Health and Safety Coordinator

Location: Tresham College - Northamptonshire Campuses

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £25,585 and £30,915 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People's Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week - 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent - Full Time

About The Role

We are currently seeking a Health and Safety Coordinator to join our Health and Safety department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Coordinator, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Health & Safety Compliance & Assurance - Support the development, monitoring and continuous improvement of health and safety systems, policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation and providing assurance that standards are effective, sustainable and aligned to organisational objectives.
  • Audits, Risk Management & Accident Prevention - Conduct audits and inspections, support the creation and review of risk assessments, promote proactive hazard management, investigate incidents and near misses, and help implement practical solutions that reduce risk and improve safety performance.
  • Advice, Training & Stakeholder Support - Provide professional health and safety guidance to managers and staff, deliver safety briefings and training, support emergency planning and drills, and help embed a positive culture of health, safety and wellbeing across the Group.
  • Reporting, Monitoring & Continuous Improvement - Produce compliance and performance reports, support KPI development, monitor departmental objectives, assist with regulatory reporting requirements, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of health and safety standards and best practice.
  • College-Wide Responsibilities & Professional Standards - Support activities across multiple campuses, participate in key College events and committees, and uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, health and safety, and continuous professional development requirements.
About You
  • Health & Safety Qualifications & Professional Development - Holds a NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) and demonstrates a commitment to ongoing development through first aid training and the acquisition of specialist health and safety competencies across a range of disciplines.
  • Health & Safety Administration & Analytical Skills - Experienced in producing reports and business documents using Microsoft Office, managing data accurately, analysing information, maintaining records, and supporting compliance activities through strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Communication, Influencing & Stakeholder Engagement - Demonstrates excellent verbal, written and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, influence at all levels, build professional relationships, and work successfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Planning, Problem Solving & Professionalism - Able to prioritise workloads, work independently or collaboratively, adapt to changing demands, handle sensitive information confidentially, and consistently deliver high standards of performance within a professional environment.
  • Flexibility, Safeguarding & College Values - Committed to safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, and health and safety principles, with the flexibility to travel between campuses, adjust working hours when required, maintain appropriate professional boundaries, and work in line with The Bedford College Group's values, policies and procedures.
