Job Description:

Job Title: Health and Safety Contractor Coordinator

Hours: 06:30 – 15:00 Monday to Friday

Flexibility: Some longer hours / weekend working may be required

Our client has recently completed a new food factory build in Peterborough. The factory manufactures a range of condiments and sauces in various formats, primarily for the fast-food industry, including many international brands. Although the new factory is in full production, there is still significant ongoing capital investment to complete the relocation of major assets and to further improve the effectiveness of the site. As a result, there is a high level of contractor activity conducting installation, modification, hot work, electrical works etc. All these activities require proactive health and safety controls to ensure the work is conducted efficiently, legally, safely and in compliance with all the site rules.

Job Summary

The Health and Safety Contractor Coordinator will be expected to ensure that all work conducted as part of the ongoing project works are covered by suitable permits to work, that the work is conducted according to pre-approved Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), the work is audited, and that site discipline is maintained. Excellent communication is required, so that all parties (Client, Contractors, Supervisors, Factory staff, Project Managers, Senior Managers etc.) are aware of works that are taking place and are all well-coordinated.

Typical tasks – This is not an exhaustive list:

  • Reviewing RAMS
  • Approving RAMS
  • Rejecting RAMS with constructive help provided to the contractor to correct issues in a timely manner.
  • Inducting contractors
  • Issuing general permits to work
  • Issuing high risk permits to work (e.g. hot work, working at height)
  • Auditing activity to ensure work is being conducted according to site rules, RAMS and good practice.
  • Reporting and managing any hazards spotted
  • Incident investigation (and/or escalating depending on the nature of the incident)
  • Creating a weekly report
  • Updating PUWER action trackers and Health and Safety File completion trackers
  • Attending safety meetings
  • Supporting the client to fulfil their role as “Principal Contractor” under CDM

The job will suit someone with a background or previous position in Site safety coordination, Maintenance supervision (experienced at supervising contractors) and Site safety management (hands on).
