Job summary

Umbrella Derby & Derbyshire is seeking a Health and Activity Coordinator to lead a new programme helping disabled children, young people and their families access and enjoy physical activity. You’ll plan inclusive group sessions, work with specialist facilitators and build relationships with families and local partners.

This 18-hour role includes some evenings and weekends, with initial funding for 18 months and potential extension subject to future funding.

Qualifications

  • Experience coordinating or delivering group-based activities.
  • Ability to adapt activities for people with different support needs.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with volunteers or small teams.
  • The confidence to work independently, use your initiative and manage your own workload.
  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle. Mileage allowance will be paid for work-related travel.
  • Enhanced DBS check prior to starting employment.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, organising and delivering engaging group activity sessions.
  • Working with specialist facilitators where required.
  • Developing session plans that support programme aims.
  • Adapting activities to suit different abilities and levels of support.
  • Coordinating staff, volunteers and venues to run sessions safely.
  • Developing opportunities for participants to stay active, including digital tools.
  • Monitoring engagement and progress and responding to participants’ needs.
  • Building relationships with local organisations and stakeholders.
  • Acting as a key contact for participants and families, involving them in planning and evaluation.

Join the friendly team at Umbrella Derby & Derbyshire as our Health and Activity Coordinator, leading an exciting new programme designed to help disabled children, young people and their families access and enjoy physical activity.

This is a varied role where you’ll plan and coordinate inclusive group activities, work alongside specialist facilitators and build relationships with families, community organisations and local partners. You’ll help create opportunities that support health, wellbeing and ongoing participation in physical activity.

What you’ll receive:

£28,100 – £31,842 per annum, pro rata to 18 hours, depending on experience

22 days annual leave, pro rata to hours, plus 8 Bank Holidays

The Role

As our Health and Activity Coordinator, you’ll be responsible for planning, organising and delivering safe, structured and inclusive group sessions that help disabled children and young people access and benefit from physical activity.

Your role will include:

Planning, organising and delivering engaging group activity sessions.

Working with specialist facilitators where required.

Developing session plans that support the aims of the programme.

Adapting activities to suit different abilities and levels of support.

Coordinating staff, volunteers and venues to make sure sessions run safely and effectively.

Developing opportunities for participants to continue being active, including through digital tools and connections with mainstream activities.

Monitoring engagement and progress and responding to participants’ changing needs.

Working closely with colleagues across Umbrella.

Building strong relationships with local organisations, community partners and other stakeholders.

Acting as a key point of contact for participants and their families and involving them in the planning and evaluation of the programme.

Job Requirments

Experience coordinating or delivering group-based activities.

The ability to adapt activities for people with different support needs.

Strong organisational and time management skills.
