Job summary

Proctor + Stevenson, Bristol-based, is seeking a Head of Technology to lead a multi-disciplinary team and set the strategic vision for technology across the agency. You will translate business needs into secure, scalable solutions, oversee internal IT and vendor relationships, and drive innovation while collaborating with Directors and the Digital Strategy lead.

This role requires agency experience, strong communication, and a passion for continuous improvement, with hybrid working and career

• Significant experience leading software development & technology teams within an agency environment.

• Experience of digital marketing products – e.g. Websites, and Martech services such as Hubspot.
• Knowledge of DevOps, CI/CD, cloud hosting and platform operations.

About us

Based in the heart of vibrant Bristol, Proctor + Stevenson is a highly respected, international creative agency with a focus on measurable results. Whether on or offline, we provide a full range of design and marketing services, from strategy, campaigns and lead generation to brand building, events, product communications and web builds.

Role purpose

The Head of Technology is a key role in the delivery and leadership of our technology team; and setting the strategic vision that meets our business objectives and inspires the team. The role ensures the successful delivery of technology solutions for clients while maintaining secure, scalable and efficient internal systems. You’ll lead a multi-disciplinary team to create the conditions for high-performance, continuous improvement and be the escalation point for the team and clients.

As the bridge between business requirements and technical execution, you’ll collaborate with our Client Services team and Digital Project Managers to ensure exceptional technical delivery of our services and our Business Development Lead to win new business. You’ll be a skilled communicator with the ability to translate complex, technical issues in plain language to stakeholders.

We have an existing IT team who are responsible for the Infrastructure, Security, IT operations and AI governance and the Head of Technology will oversee this team to ensure the operational effectiveness.

About you

While this isn’t a hands-on technical role, you do need to be familiar with modern web technologies, cloud platforms and software methodologies. Our current core web technologies, include Payload, Drupal, WebFlow and Laravel. You will also be expected to manage the department in adoption of AI services.

You’ll be an experienced leader who can inspire and motivate others by setting clear expectations and performance measures aligned to business objectives. Our Head of Technology will bring fresh ideas, spot opportunities to improve how we operate and create initiatives to meet commercial and client service growth objectives.

A day in a life of a Head of Technology

• Meet regularly with the team to ensure the right resources are in place to deliver exceptional outcomes for clients.
• Review the roadmap with the team to bring value added initiatives to life for our clients.
• Responsible for the management and performance of the internal IT team who oversee our internal IT infrastructure, cloud platforms and business-critical systems.
• Lead compliance activities relating to ISO 27001, GDPR and cybersecurity best practices.
• You’ll make decisions around our services and Tech stack, so they are optimised for smooth delivery and provide value for money.
• Managing relationships with technology vendors, suppliers and service partners in collaboration with the IT team and Director of Digital Strategy and Innovation.
• You’ll be the escalation point when issues arise, providing general support.
• You’ll oversee the development and maintenance of technology standards, governance frameworks and best practices.
• Collaborate closely with the directors and business development lead on new business tenders and pitches.

The right candidate should come from within an agency setting in a similar role working closely with the Board of Directors.
