Job summary

Ernesford Grange Community Academy in Coventry is seeking an innovative Head of Sociology to lead the department with a clear strategic vision and the highest standards of teaching. You will continue to deliver sociology across key stages and contribute to the school's ethos of excellence and inclusion.

The role requires QTS or equivalent, evidence of leadership development, and a track record of inspiring students and staff.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
• Evidence of commitment to ongoing professional development in leadership/management (e.g., NPQLTD/NPQSL)
• Ability to inspire, motivate and lead both students and staff
• Experience teaching across KS3 and KS4 (and KS5 where applicable)
• Proven experience in curriculum design meeting National Curriculum requirements
• Experience leading/mentoring colleagues to improve teaching and learning
• Collaborative and empowering leadership style enabling high-performing teams

Responsibilities

• Lead the Sociology department with strategic vision and high pedagogical standards
• Deliver the duties of a sociology teacher as per the Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document
• Inspire and support students to reach their potential within the academy ethos
• Lead and mentor colleagues to improve teaching quality and curriculum delivery
• Shape a cohesive departmental identity and promote a love of learning
