The Crosby family's passion for quality has been at the heart of Riverway Foods since the family founded the company in 1971. Part of the CPC Group since 2018, Riverway Foods continues to craft the best-tasting sausages in Britain. Using only high-welfare pork from British farms, you’ll find them in supermarkets, including Aldi and Tesco.

This is a brand new role based in Harlow. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic and exciting company. For the past two years, we have been on a journey of positive change: we understand how important our environmental strategy is to our customers and we’re proud to be on our net zero journey.

We are now looking for a Head of SHE (Safety, Health and Environment), to join our team. We are looking for a talented and experienced individual who will develop and lead our safety, health and environment strategy, teams and plans, to ensure best-in-class processes and policies. You will also play a key role in developing a culture of compliance and operational ownership.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Using established NEBOSH/ IOSH plan-do-check-act principles to drive safety improvements and leadership on site

  • Ensuring the site Safety Management System is up to date, relevant

  • Managing risk appropriately and in accordance with CPC Group SHE standards

  • Ensuring all significant and major SHE risks on site are quantified, managed and validated

  • Monitoring departmental KPIs and challenging improvement, when required, to ensure targets are achieved and improved upon

  • Completing regular health, safety and environmental audits of the site, evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law

  • Preparing and scheduling training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety and other relevant topics

  • Ensuring inspections and servicing of plant, equipment and machinery are completed in compliance with relevant legislation, including PUWER assessments

  • Maintaining records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required, and monitoring all other environmental risks to colleagues and the local community.

Skills and experience required:

  • NEBOSH diploma or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related field is essential

  • Proven experience as a Head of SHE or similar role

  • Comprehensive understanding of health, safety and environmental guidelines and relevant legislation

  • Excellent leadership and management skills

  • Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies

  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

What we will offer you:

  • Competitive salary

  • 33 days’ holiday, including bank holidays (option to buy up to 5 extra days)

  • Access to GroceryAid, which provides emotional, practical and financial support

  • Benefits and recognition hub - including amazing colleague discounts.

If you meet the above requirements and are passionate about safety, health, and the environment, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
