Role Overview

The GCB4 Head of Risk position is based within HSBC's Commercial Banking Equipment Finance Team (HEF).

HSBC Equipment Finance is a leading asset finance provider in the UK, supporting funding for capital expenditures including heavy commercial vehicles, buses, plant, machinery, and expanding into emerging asset classes like technology assets and renewables/alternative fuels (e.g., Hydrogen).

Collaborating closely with HSBC Coverage, Sector, and Sustainable Finance teams, HEF plays a key role in HSBC’s growth in sustainable financing.

The role emphasizes responsible lending aligned with bank objectives, requiring the display of appropriate behaviors and effective stakeholder collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leading the HEF Risk Team and participating in senior leadership and potentially the statutory Board of Directors.
  2. Shaping risk appetite, setting policies, and defining processes based on a risk-based approach, involving extensive stakeholder collaboration.
  3. Identifying and mitigating enterprise risks, ensuring compliance with global standards and policies.
  4. Providing risk insights to senior management regarding transactional, asset, and industry-specific risks.
  5. Overseeing lending and asset risks, supporting complex transaction structuring, and considering emerging asset classes and market trends.
  6. Managing data compilation for the bank’s Loss database, producing strategic management information, and ensuring standards are met across the business.
  7. Representing HEF at key risk committees and forums, both internal and external.
Candidate Requirements
  1. Proven team management and leadership skills.
  2. Experience in CMB coverage is advantageous.
  3. Strategic thinking with a focus on risk, growth, and operational efficiency.
  4. Strong risk management knowledge from internal and external perspectives.
  5. Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  6. Ability to challenge senior managers and uphold integrity.
  7. Project management experience, delivering on time and within budget.
  8. Understanding of the Asset Finance industry is preferred but not essential.

This role is hybrid, with Birmingham as the preferred location.
