Job summary

HSBC UK is seeking a Head of Responsible Artificial Intelligence to shape governance and oversight of AI and GenAI across the bank. You will set risk and controls strategies, provide oversight, and ensure safe, fair, and compliant deployment in line with UK expectations.

This senior role collaborates across HSBC UK and Group stakeholders to deliver decision-ready reporting, strengthen operational resilience, and uphold customer outcomes and bank resilience.

Qualifications

• Senior experience in risk, governance, assurance or control design for AI in a regulated environment.
• Strong understanding of AI risk domains including fairness, explainability, privacy, and security.
• Proven ability to translate UK regulatory expectations into governance and controls.
• Experience overseeing end-to-end AI lifecycles and governance.
• Ability to present complex topics to non-technical audiences and influence senior forums.
• Experience building networks across Compliance, ERM, and Legal.
• People management experience with training and communities of practice.
• Ability to produce clear MI for AI inventories, KRIs and KPIs, and remediation tracking.

Responsibilities

• Define risk and minimum control standards for AI and GenAI use cases.
• Establish the governance operating model for HSBC UK AI use cases and escation routes.
• Oversee controls across the AI lifecycle from intake to decommissioning.
• Translate supervisory expectations into practical governance and evidence.
• Set operational resilience expectations for AI services.
• Coordinate response to AI-related incidents with root-cause analysis.
• Set assurance requirements for third-party AI solutions and monitor.
• Provide decision-ready MI to senior risk committees and support reviews.
