Job summary

Story Terrace Inc. is seeking an experienced senior leader to own product strategy and lead the engineering function. You’ll set the product direction, hire the first Product Manager, and shape how product works across data, design, sales and customer success.

You’ll collaborate closely with the founder and leadership, challenging with evidence and aligning five products into a single coherent strategy that drives growth and value for customers in a fast-moving SaaS environment.

Qualifications

• You’ve owned product strategy. Not been adjacent to it, not run someone’s other roadmap. This is the thing we most need.
• You’ve led people, and you want to. You’re comfortable being accountable for a team’s performance and development, and you don’t see management as the tax on the strategy job.
• You’re strategic. You can hold a messy set of ideas and turn them into one direction people can follow.
• You’re a really clear communicator. It’s an important part of this role, and we’re looking for a true leader.
• You’re technical enough to be credible. You can follow the conversation, challenge an estimate and earn the team’s respect. You don’t need to be writing code.
• You’ve worked in startups or scale-ups, and you’re used to growth environments.
• You’ve worked in B2B SaaS. A mix of B2B and B2C is genuinely useful given where we’re going.
• You’re comfortable with ambiguity and you move quickly through it rather than waiting for it to clear.
• You’re kind and collaborative, and you bring enough authority that people follow the direction you set.
• Extra points for:
• A technical background you moved into product from.
• Coming at this from the engineering side with a genuine product track record.
• Having built a product function somewhere it didn’t exist before.

Responsibilities

• Own product strategy: what we build, why, in what order, and what we deliberately don’t.
• Lead the engineering team on the people and delivery side. One to ones, progression, accountability, making sure we ship.
• Turn five products into one coherent direction the whole company understands.
• Diagnose what’s actually getting in the way across product and engineering in your first 30 days, while taking over the team.
• Build the product function. Hire your first Product Manager, set how product works here.
• Work closely with Giles and the leadership team, bringing independent judgement and challenging with evidence.
• Partner with our engineering lead on the technical side, and across data, design, sales and customer success.
