Job description

Octopus has built worldwide renown for its customer service. We are the only one of the big six energy providers in the UK that has a positive net promoter score, and are now expanding this success globally.

Underlying this success is the Kraken technology platform, designed from the ground up for the energy sector, covering everything from billing to managing customer interactions.

We are seeking an experienced data leader to oversee our data analysts and scientists supporting operational teams. The role involves enabling teams to extract key insights from the Kraken platform to enhance customer satisfaction. The successful candidate will report directly to the Global Head of Data Science, a member of the Octopus Energy Group senior leadership team.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead our UK-based data operations teams, developing and nurturing analysts.
  • Prioritize and coordinate data teams supporting Octopus’ global operations, balancing local needs with international opportunities.
  • Participate in the UK operational leadership team, guiding strategy and decision-making through data insights.
  • Ensure data quality and integrity, maintaining accurate, reliable, and actionable metrics.
  • Promote data democratization and analytical capabilities within operational teams.
  • Communicate complex data findings clearly and effectively.
What You’ll Have
  • Experience supporting operational teams in customer-focused companies.
  • Management experience, including managing managers.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced tools in our data platform stack (listed below).
  • Passion for both practical data work and leading teams to deliver insights.
  • Broad experience applying various analytical techniques across different company sizes.

  • We employ software engineering best practices to design, test, and deploy our data services using:
  • Python, Databricks, Kubernetes, Terraform, Streamlit, Airflow, Circle CI, Parquet and Delta on S3, Spark, DBT, SparkSQL.
