Job summary

Philosophy Education is partnering with a Wandsworth secondary school to appoint a Head of Maths on a full-time basis from September 2026.

The role involves teaching Maths and leading the department to raise attainment, develop a dynamic learning environment and work toward potential permanent appointment for the right candidate. Experience in department leadership and A-level teaching is desirable.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status (UK) with relevant degree.
• Outstanding classroom practitioner or driven to be.
• Experience teaching A-level preferred.
• Experience leading a department or deputy role encouraged.
• Proactive and engaging teaching approach.
• Strong communication and administrative skills.

Responsibilities

• Teach Maths to the department and lead curriculum development.
• Lead the department to raise attainment and create an engaging learning environment.
• Fulfil Form Tutor duties and associated administration tasks.
• Contribute to safeguarding and wider school duties.

We are currently working with a secondary school in Wandsworth who are looking for Head of Maths to join their school on a full-time basis from September 2026.

The Role

In this role you will be teaching Maths, while also leading the department in creating an exciting learning environment, raising attainment and achievement. The role is likely to start as long term Temporary role with the opportunity to be made permanent for the right candidate

The school are looking for a teacher with the following:

• Qualified Teacher Status
• Relevant degree
• Is an Outstanding classroom practitioner or driven to be so
• Ideally have experience teaching A-level
• Experience of leading a department or an ambitious 2ic
• A proactive and engaging teaching approach
• Understanding of the requirements for high quality teaching
• Ability to use ICT effectively
• Ability to fulfil the requirements of a Form Tutor
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to relate to people at all levels
• Excellent administration skills and the ability to meet deadlines
