Job summary

Blue Zoo Productions seeks a Lead Lighting and Compositing Artist to guide the L&C team in shaping mood and atmosphere for episodes. You will define lighting, balance colours, and ensure high quality while meeting deadlines.

You will distribute work, coordinate with departments, and drive creative problem solving across shots. You will lead daily check-ins, mentor junior artists, and handle technical notes while maintaining consistency and efficiency in renders and composites.

Qualifications

• Excellent leadership and ability to mentor a team of L&C artists.
• Deep knowledge of lighting principles and stylised animation.
• Strong understanding of 3D rendering and physically based rendering.
• Solid grasp of colour theory, composition and aesthetics.
• Experience with lighting in Maya and a renderer like Redshift.
• Awareness of global illumination and noise/artifact reduction.
• Familiarity with utility passes (Z/Position/Normals) in compositing.
• Comfort with depth of field and camera effects.
• Proven problem solving and feedback responsiveness.
• Organised, proactive and able to manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of lighting and compositing artists daily.
• Create lighting scenes in Maya and composite with Nuke.
• Tune light rigs, renders and templates to hit looks and deadlines.
• Monitor render times and render efficiency budgets.
• Coordinate with Supervisor and other departments to ensure smooth production.
• Mentor team members and contribute to their growth and reviews.
• Ensure quality control across episodes before review with director.
