Job Description:

We are welcoming applications for the role of Head of Learning and Development with Dorset Police based at Police Headquarters, Exeter.

Salary: Scale K - Starts at £59,352 rising to £66,126 per annum. Salary is based on 37 hours/week; prorated for part-time roles. Exceptions may apply for existing police staff at the same grade.

Type of employment: Permanent

Type of working arrangement: Hybrid Worker (remote and on-site work)

About the role:

Join Devon & Cornwall Police as Head of Learning and Development

Lead the L&D strategy, innovation, workforce development, partnerships, and resource management to support a capable and skilled police force.

Key responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement L&D strategies in collaboration with partners.
  • Innovation and Best Practice: Ensure services meet current and future needs through innovation and adherence to standards.
  • Workforce Development: Ensure the workforce has necessary skills and knowledge.
  • Partnerships: Manage internal and external educational partnerships and standards.
  • Leadership: Provide leadership and motivation within the L&D department.
  • Resource Management: Allocate resources effectively to meet organizational demands.
  • Client Management: Act as strategic client manager, advising senior management.
  • Policy Oversight: Oversee development and implementation of L&D policies.
  • Operational Oversight: Manage key projects and health & safety requirements.
  • Income Generation: Explore and develop income and collaboration opportunities.

  • Strategic leadership experience in HR/Personnel, preferably in L&D.
  • Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven success in developing and implementing L&D strategies.
