Job summary

Teach Now is seeking an experienced and ambitious Head of History to lead History at a Hertfordshire secondary school. You will combine high-quality classroom teaching with departmental leadership, shaping an engaging and inclusive History curriculum that develops strong subject knowledge, source analysis and independent thinking.

You will mentor colleagues, oversee planning, assessment and examination preparation, and use performance information to identify gaps and plan targeted support, while

Qualifications

• QTS recognised in England and entitlement to work in the UK.
• A degree in History or closely related subject.
• Substantial experience teaching History in a UK secondary school.
• Strong knowledge of the secondary History curriculum and exam specifications.
• Ability to mentor staff and lead planning, assessment and exam preparation.
• Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive teaching; enhanced DBS clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead History department and set clear priorities for teaching and pupil progress.
• Teach History across the secondary age range with engagement.
• Develop and maintain a challenging, inclusive History curriculum.
• Oversee planning, assessment, examination preparation and resources.
• Use pupil data to identify gaps and plan targeted support.
• Mentor colleagues to strengthen teaching practice.
• Work with senior leaders, pastoral teams and families to support achievement.
• Uphold safeguarding and pupil wellbeing in all activities.
