Job summary

Wodensborough Ormiston Academy seeks a strategic Head of History to shape the curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4 and lead a committed department. You will drive high standards in teaching, learning and achievement, leveraging data to support every student’s progress and close attainment gaps.

You will foster collaboration, develop colleagues, and deliver inclusive lessons that motivate learners of diverse backgrounds, ensuring exceptional outcomes.

As our Head of History, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the historical understanding, critical thinking and cultural awareness of our students while leading a dedicated department to achieve exceptional outcomes.

You will lead the development of an ambitious and engaging History curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4, driving high standards of teaching, learning and achievement. Through strong leadership, effective use of data and a commitment to continuous improvement, you will help ensure every student can thrive, regardless of their starting point.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Strong subject knowledge and a proven track record of securing excellent outcomes in History.
• The ability to lead, inspire and develop colleagues, creating a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Experience of using assessment and performance data to raise achievement and close attainment gaps.
• A consistently strong teaching record and a commitment to delivering engaging, inclusive lessons that motivate all learners

We are a popular and oversubscribed 11-16 mainstream school with the additional expertise and facilities to include two focused SEND provisions for young people on the autistic spectrum, and for those who are deaf and hearing impaired (ARC and Deaf Academy). Our small and bespoke sixth form (WOA6) caters for students in Years 12 and 13 who have EHCPs.
