Job description

An exciting opportunity for a new Head of Healthcare at HMP Elmley has become available.

You will be responsible for leadership and operational management of the healthcare service at HMP Elmley. You will work closely with the Regional Service Manager, fellow Heads of Healthcare, the Elmley healthcare operational team, and HMPPS colleagues. You will also regularly liaise with key stakeholders including commissioners and prison governors.

You will ensure effective clinical governance, including organizing and chairing local Quality Management and LDQB meetings, participating in regional management meetings, contract monitoring, and financial reviews. You will coordinate with data analysts and quality management colleagues to ensure all reporting requirements are met.

You will support operational managers and team leaders to deliver safe, effective, high-quality, patient-centered care. You will promote effective partnership working and multidisciplinary collaboration.

This role is based on-site at HMP Elmley.

• Provide direction and coordination with Prison Governors, Heads of Departments, and relevant managers to shape and improve healthcare services.
• Maintain strategic oversight of healthcare services and represent Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust as a senior management team member.
• Build and sustain effective relationships with HMPS senior management, Governors, and partner providers.
• Exercise a high degree of professional autonomy, making complex decisions confidently.
• Deputize for the Prison Services Manager as needed.
• Develop, deliver, audit, and evaluate the integrated healthcare service, including acute and primary care, outbreak management, long-term conditions, diagnostics, and health promotion, aligned with NHS standards and guidelines.
• Provide expert clinical leadership grounded in evidence-based practice to ensure quality and outcomes.
