Job description

Interviews will be held in person at our HQ in Battersea, London on Friday 6 June 2025

The Royal Academy of Dance is a global leader in dance education and training. Our mission is to inspire the world to dance. We are a registered charity, a higher education establishment and an awarding body.

This is a new role, working directly with the CEO, and offers an exciting opportunity to shape effective policies and processes at a time of change for the charity.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced governance professional looking for their next challenge. If you are experienced in shaping best-in-class governance, providing strategic as well as administrative support to board and committees, have a sharp focus on compliance and meeting regulatory requirements, we would like to hear from you.

As a trusted advisor, you will report directly to the CEO and support the board and its committees on all issues relating to corporate governance and compliance. There is also the opportunity to support the CEO with strategy development and implementation and managing organisational performance.

A thorough understanding of corporate governance is essential, along with experience in advising boards and executive leaders on governance matters.

You will have a high level of personal integrity and an ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality with a can-do attitude.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrable experience in a governance role or company secretary' role.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills.
  • A strong eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset.

Why work for us?

We are passionate about providing a positive workplace culture. While time in our accessible London (Wandsworth / Battersea) office will be required, we operate a hybrid model of in-person and remote working with most full-time employees working in the office 3 days per week. For this role, attendance in person will be required at all board and committee meetings, and at certain other meetings essential to the effectiveness of the role.

We also offer 25 days paid holiday (pro rata) plus bank holidays and a birthday day off, contributory pension scheme, access to the Perkbox discounts platform – including an Employee Assistance Programme, WeCare scheme, Bupa cash plan, life assurance, season ticket loan and cycle to work scheme.

Due to the nature of the RAD’s work, the successful candidate will be required to have an Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service. Applications which do not include a full employment history and reference details will not be taken forward to the shortlisting stage.

All colleagues are required to promote and safeguard the welfare of children they are responsible for, or come into contact with, and to adhere to and ensure compliance with the RAD'sSafeguarding Policy at all times.

We encourage and welcome applications from people with a disability, people from minority ethnic backgrounds, and people from the LGBTQIA+ community.

Please let us know if you have any access needs for the interview.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and bring relevant documents if invited to attend an interview. We are unable to sponsor people under the Skilled Worker scheme.

No agencies please.

In your Supporting Statement, please explain why you are interested in this role and how you meet each of the requirements under the ‘Skills and Experience’ section of the Person Specification, using examples.
