Job summary

Leicester Cathedral is recruiting a Head of Finance to work with the COO and current CFO during a transition period, with a salary around £48,000 per annum and hybrid working in Leicester.

The role focuses on delivering timely management accounts, clear financial commentary, process improvements, and robust financial controls to support strategic decision making and long-term resilience.

Qualifications

• Qualified or qualified by experience finance professional with strong management accounting.
• Experience producing meaningful financial analysis and clear presentation.
• Proactive, solutions-focused, able to work at pace and improve processes.
• Strong attention to detail with ability to see the wider operational picture.
• Confident communicator able to build trusted relationships with stakeholders.
• Charity/not‑for‑profit/public sector or values-led organisations experience advantageous.
• Comfortable operating strategically and hands-on in a smaller organisation.
• Strong Excel and financial reporting system skills.

Responsibilities

• Produce accurate management accounts, reporting packs, and cashflow forecasts.
• Provide clear financial insight to support operational and strategic decision making.
• Simplify complex financial information for non-finance stakeholders.
• Improve financial processes, reporting efficiency, and financial controls.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, audit preparation, and year-end accounting requirements.
• Work closely with the COO, Finance Committee, and leadership team on planning.
• Manage day-to-day finance operations including reconciliations, payroll oversight, and working capital management.
• Build strong working relationships across the organisation and act as a trusted financial sounding board for senior leadership.
• Support the planned transition into the future Chief Finance Officer position.
